about

Grammy Award-wining blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Christone "Kingfish" Ingram and groundbreaking indie hip hop star—and fellow Mississippian—Big K.R.I.T. will release Another Life Goes By (Mississippi Mix). On the newly remixed track (produced, mixed and mastered by Grammy Award-winner Tom Hambridge), K.R.I.T. adds a captivating rap to Kingfish's moving, thought-provoking lyrics, seamlessly blending hip hop's raw urgency with the timelessness of the blues.

NPR's World Cafe exclusively premiered the song (found in its original form on Kingfish's Grammy Award-winning Alligator Records album 662) on October 4, airing the track on over 250 radio stations nationwide.

LYRICS

(Christone “Kingfish Ingram):
Where does hate come from?
And how can we make it stop?
We got to make some changes
Before somebody else gets shot
We need to pay attention
To all the helpless cries
We got to stop the madness
Before another life goes by

It’s been going on for decades
We keep treating people wrong
Why does doing something right
Something right take so long?
We need to pay attention
To the helpless cries
We got to stop the madness
Before another life goes by

Time ticks fast, days fly by
It all can end in the blink of an eye

(Big K.R.I.T.):
Another life goes by in the game
Another mama crying tears for a baby that’s slain
The pain, the drama, the government can care less if it ain’t a comma
Disease is a means to green for big pharma-ceutical
They’re planning our demise
They got blood on their cuticles
I’m tired of funerals
Now it’s hard to breathe
On cameras that all can see
The police draw and squeeze
With no regard for me
It’s time now, to raise a fist no lying down
Word to ‘migos my people need to straightenin’
Iron out
Plain as day
What good is a car that starts with no way to make?
What good is a boat for folk that get barely paid?
Minimum love mean minimum wage
Get maximum time for minimum plays
You think we were slaves
It’s crazy how they try to say we’re tripping
King Krizzle. Kingfish
Good lawd, make ‘em listen

(Christone “Kingfish” Ingram):
Nobody’s born with hate
Hate is taught to them
How can you judge someone
By the color of their skin?

We need to pay attention
To the helpless cries
We need to pay attention
To the helpless cries
We got to stop the madness
Before another life goes by
Another life goes by
